EMD’s EPA Part 1042 Emissions Kits

EMD’s EPA Part 1042 Emissions Kits

Wednesday, January 13, 2010

Electro-Motive Diesel, Inc. announced that it received US EPA certification for emissions kits according to EPA rule 40 CFR Part 1042, which requires a 25% reduction in particulate matter emissions. The new kits will allow marine operators of EMD Model 645 and 710 engines, both roots-blown and turbocharged, to comply with the mandated EPA emissions requirements when the engines are overhauled.
The new Part 1042 kits reduce lube oil consumption by more than 25% and reduce fuel consumption by up to 3% over EPA defined marine duty cycles. EMD has achieved these reductions by enhancing standard engine components. No new systems are necessary. No unproven retrofit technology is needed. And no new training is required to overhaul or maintain the engine.

The emissions kits were developed in the same engineering facilities where new EMD marine engines are designed, built, and tested. This OEM focus ensures the same performance, reliability, and durability. And since EMD holds the EPA certificate for its engines and kits, emissions compliance and performance is covered by the OEM factory warranty.
